As is true with most things in life, the earlier that dental issues are identified and addressed, the simpler and less expensive the treatment process is. That is why our Saint Louis dentists work to educate our patients about oral health issues, so that they can stay alert for changes to their smiles.
Today we are reviewing a few warning signs that may indicate emerging oral health issues. If you notice that you’re suffering from these problems, reach out to your dentist for evaluation and treatment.
Persistent bad breath
It is normal for breath to become malodorous after eating foods like garlic, onions, etc. However, if you are suffering from chronic bad breath, and you find that it’s difficult to maintain a fresh and clean feeling smile, it may be because you have accumulated plaque and tartar in your mouth. Chronic bad breath is often linked to existing dental cavities and gum disease.
Dental pain
Some people simply have sensitive teeth: they may feel temporary discomfort when drinking ice cold drinks, for example. However, in many cases, dental pain indicates a dental problem. If a cavity has extended into the nerves of the tooth, for example, you will experience pain when the nerves are touched and when pressure is put on the tooth. In these cases, it is always the best course of action to be safe and complete an evaluation with your dental team.
Shifting dental alignment
When periodontal disease is left untreated, it can spread to other oral tissues and the connective tissues that hold teeth in place. If you notice that your teeth are feeling loose, or shifting along your gum line, periodontal disease may be the culprit.
Our Saint Louis dentists are here to help you address these dental issues and more. We’re happy to answer any questions that you may have—give us a call to schedule a personal consultation!
